I’m Jess Carthey, a San Diego & Kauai based yoga teacher. Move with me.
Let’s flow.
Welcome in. This is a space for all things yoga, sprinkled with some inspiration for those interested in self growth, adventure, and living an authentic life.
My practice.
My mat is where I feel most grounded and where I am guided back to my truest, most vulnerable self. When I practice, I’m reminded that everything I need is already inside, or as Rumi so beautifully put it: 'You are not a drop in the ocean; you are the entire ocean in a drop.'
You’ll walk away from my class both physically and mentally challenged, with themes that can be applied on your mat and in life outside your practice. This space is here for you to feel what you feel and be supported while you do.
Yoga isn’t about the way it looks; it’s about the way it feels. Each class will strengthen the mind-body connection while encouraging you to trust and tune into your innate wisdom. By turning inward, you heal parts of yourself and show up authentically in your life. When you live authentically, your whole world changes.
My class is all about presence. When you learn to be present, you not only gain the capacity to be with who you are, but you also create the time and space to form deep, lasting connections with others.
Yoga doesn’t have to be serious, so expect to have fun and sweat to carefully curated playlists with movement to match.
How I got here.
I’ve been practicing yoga on and off since high school. Growing up as a dancer, I always felt in tune with my body, and through dance, I built a strong relationship with myself. Slowly, over the years, I lost touch with parts of me and moved further away from my truest self.
I spent a year traveling the world—surfing, kiting, asking questions, building connections, and diving headfirst into my yoga practice. Throughout that year, change was constant; it felt like each month—and sometimes each week—a line tethered to my life would give a little or snap altogether. But with each shift, I found myself resisting less and less, as each change pushed me deeper into my Self and my yoga practice. Through yoga, I was able to rebuild my most important relationship: the relationship with myself.
